Fictionwise Lending Library FAQ   Mobipocket FAQ

Here are questions and answers about the Fictionwise Lending Library.

What is the Fictionwise Lending Library?
The Fictionwise Lending Library (FLL) is an early access test site for a new product called Libwise. This product allows any library to field a complete eBook lending web site that is integrated with their current web site. It allows for borrowing eBooks using a time-out model in which one patron at a time can access each eBook.

If you are a librarian and you want more information about the Libwise product, Click Here.

Who can borrow from the Fictionwise Lending Library?
Currently we have to limit who can borrow from FLL because there are a limited number of titles available (all titles in the FLL have been bought and paid for to the appropriate author or publisher). If we allowed too many people to use the FLL, then availability of eBooks to borrow would be too low.

We are limiting it to Buywise Club members.

If you are a librarian or a library administrator you may request a guest account by Clicking Here.

How can I gain access to the Fictionwise Lending Library if I am not a Buywise Club member or a librarian?

At this time, only Buywise Club Members or qualified librarians or library administrators may borrow from the Fictionwise Lending Library.

Are you going to put more eBooks in the FLL in the future?
Yes, we plan on adding more over time to keep testing out the system.

How long do I have to read an eBook in the FLL?
Each eBook is marked with its borrow period. Typically for FLL it is 2 weeks. After that time the eBook file expires and is unreadable. For other libraries using the Libwise system, the librarian has control over check out period for each eBook.

Do I have to return the eBook?
No, there is no "return" as in a physical library. When the eBook expires it is considered to be returned to the library and becomes available for other patrons.

What if I'm finished with an eBook early, can I then return it?
No, not at this time. You have it until it expires. There's no way we could ensure it was actually removed from your computer and PDA.

How many eBooks can I borrow at a time?
This is a tunable parameter. For FLL, it is currently 3. After you borrow 3 eBooks you must wait until one expires before borrowing again.

Can I borrow the eBook again after it expires?
Yes, if no one else has grabbed it in the meantime.
